Many thanks to those who braved the rain to watch our stage presentation of LANKE OMU – The Palmwine Drinkard yesterday at Freedom Park, Lagos. Our guests included Governors Babatunde Raji Fashola, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, Prof Wole Soyinka, Mrs Francesca Emmanuel and members of the Dramatic Society of King’s College, Lagos. There is no doubt that the play resonated well with the audience judging by the reactions during the presentation. I was fortunate to see the first production in 1963 as a form two student of the Abeokuta Grammar School and fifty years from now, we should not be surprised if one of the students remembers the experience and also decides to re-adapt the work! Such is the magic of Yoruba Theatre.
